Sunday,Sunday,Sunday...paper

Hey,

Look at that, they put me in the paper. Wonder why ?? Maybe it's so I will finally pick it up on the way into the house ? Yeah, like that will work.

Maybe I will have to have dad read it to me. What, I have to wait till this Sunday ? Darn it. Oh' well. I can nap until then.

Have a good weekend everybody !

Summer Friends

One summer day, mum and I went to da barn to see some puppies.  At first, dey were jumping all over me and saying "Uncle Frodo come play with us!"  I had to remind dem of there manner's because you know, dose whittle guys are still learning.  After, we were all just running around and having fun!  Oh and even cousin Elliot and momma Eva were having a good time too.  I guess da whittle one's arn't so bad after all, even if dey like to tug on my ears. "Ouch!" Well, I hope everyone is having as much fun dis summer as I am!

Uba's Guide to Opening a Crate

Step 1: Locate and lift the latch handle.
Step 2: Carefully slide the latch to the right.
Step 3: Use paw to pull the door open.
Step 4: Do not let the people see you open the crate. There are several reasons for this:
  1. They will take the yummy bone that you so skillfully "borrowed" away from you and they will give it back to your sister.
  2. When they come home and find you out of your crate they will stop saying "How did you get out? I thought I latched it all the way!" and they will start putting carabiners on the crate door. I haven't figured out how to open a carabiner yet, but I am working on it.
  3. They will do mean things, like put your favorite toy inside the crate and tell you to open the crate and get it. Then they will point the camera at you to make a movie. I am refusing to comply with this ridiculous demand.
With practice you will be able to open crates quickly and without making any suspicious noises. Good luck!

What I did on my Summer Vacation

Hi Everyone, it's me, Grace. Last week I got to hang out with my old friends Lily and Jonny Justice.

We rode in the truck for a while and ended up where there are lots of trees and flowers.

Really.Big.Trees.

There was a there creek too. Iv'e never been swiming before. I wonder if I will like it ?

I'm not too sure how to swim , so I just walked in for a while. Not so bad on a hot day.

It was nice to lay in the sun afterwards.

Then I got up and sniffed a TON of stuff with Jonny. We sniffed for hours.

Then I smelled it. YES !!!! BBQ !!!

Jonny fell asleep in the dirt after we ate. Boys, sheeh.

Ok, well maybe sleeping in the dirt isn't so bad.

And that is what I did on my Summer vacation.

I Am Thriving

I overhead her reading last week that PETA claims we former Michael Vick dogs are all dead, or if not dead, then homeless. Did PETA make this assumption just because I haven’t posted here in awhile? Well, here I am. I’m alive, happy, and busy. I’ve got more hobbies than most kids.

And I’m not homeless either. My life is full and my adoptive family adores me. I live in the house with them, I eat well, I go on lots of outings, I know all of my neighbors, I practice my stuff (I’m a performance dog in training), I play hard, and I get my much deserved beauty rest. This month marks the one year anniversary that my orthopedic surgeon gave me the go-ahead to start agility classes. I’m now quite competent on the teeter, I can make crazy entries into the poles, I jump with the grace of a pig-shaped gazelle, and I get happily sucked into agility tunnels.

When I’m not doing all that, I’m vacationing with my family and my buddy Aldo on the coast. I’m thriving and I’m happy. PETA, I’m most definitely not dead.

p.s. oh PETA, you are right about one thing though. I don’t get handouts from under the dinner table. I wish I did.

I'm a pamperd Pit!

Or at least dats what my mum calls me!  I've pretty much forgotten how scary my life used to be when me and some of my friends lived at dat "mean guys" place.  Now, I get to go for walks, play with my sister and brother, and even go on play-dates with other furry-friends. But bestest of all, I get to sleep under da covers with my mum!  Oh yeah, and dats when she calls me her "snuggle-bunny"!  Geeze, I always tawght I was just a plain ol' Pit Bull.  Who knew I would become all those other tings?!  A wee friend came to stay with me for a wittle bit,  so I tried calling her "my snuggle bunny".  Nope, Nope, snuggle-bunny she was not!  She always chased after me and tried to bite my butt!   So I named her "Dehlila da PiraƱa".

But I do hope dat some day, she gets to be a pampered pit just like me! Even if she can be annoying.

I Got a Jungle

I love my back yard, its nice and quiet and I can sit in the sun and sniff around to see what critters have passed through while I'm inside. Its also a great place to run around. When I start running around inside, my people say "Uba! Let's go OUTSIDE!" Then I run outside and run around the yard as fast as I can and they watch me and laugh.
Unfortunately, it has been raining a lot recently, which means that going outside and spending time in my yard hasn't been very nice. All the rain did something amazing, though. It made the yard into a jungle! Now I am the king of my very own jungle.
I guess the rain isn't so bad if it makes jungles.

Hugs,
Uba

My Favorite Thing

Here is a little video of me running on my most beloved TREADMILL! It is so exciting when my people say "Uba, do you want to go on your treadmill?" Then I jump down the stairs to the treadmill as fast as I can and my people put my working harness on me and I get to RUN! I really really love running on my treadmill.

When we made this video we cut out a lot of the fun part because my mom says 20 minutes of me running might not be all that interesting to people watching. I think the running part is the best!

See how happy I am at the end?

happy running,
Uba

Edited in response to questions:
Uba is running on the dog powered Grand Carpet Mill. Not all dogs are as enthusiastic as Uba about the treadmill concept. Jonny, for example, thinks its pretty boring. It can take some dogs, even those with a ton of energy, a bit of time to get used to the idea of using a treadmill, so please do your research on training, be sure to use a good working harness, and be prepared to always monitor your dogs' treadmill use for safety.

Mirror Mirror...

Me and my person go to this big store sometimes where they have lawn mowers and toilets and big pieces of wood and garbage cans and rugs and light bulbs and so many cool things. It's full of so much stuff to sniff and I love it there. Sometimes when I go inside the people who work there all yell my name, "Jhumpa", and my tail wags sooo fast.

But what was so great the other day was that I saw someone sitting on a shelf who looked just like me! I stopped and sniffed and sniffed and sniffed. I couldn't believe my eyes. Sort of like the first time I looked in the thing called a mirror and saw myself. Like magic!

Here is me and my mirror friend:

Here's another:

And one more:
I was so happy to find my mirror friend. I can't wait to visit him next time I go to the store with the lawn mowers and wood and toilets...And my mirror friend!!!

Love, Jhumpa Jones

Read to Me

Do you read ???

A lot of people I meet like to read.

I don't read too much myself, but I sure like when people read to me.

Oh' and I like to look at the pictures too, even upside down.

So if you like to read too, or just want to say "Hi" come by and visit. We hang out at the Brisbane Library. But be careful, you could catch what my dad says is a reading bug. I hope I don't get it.

My New Roomie

A couple of weeks ago, I moved into a new foster home. When I got there, I was greeted by my new roomie Gulliver. At first, I was like, "Yikes! This guy is almost twice as big as me!" He would follow me around and sniff me and try to play. But, being new and all, I was a little bit shy. I still get shy sometimes but my tail is wagging non-stop and I'm slowly getting used to playing with such a big guy. Sometimes, my new foster parents think that I'm the bigger dog. My bark can make me sound pretty big and I even snore louder than Gulliver! I found out that this Gulliver guy isn't so bad after all. He even shares his bed and toys with me! One time, I sat on his face while he was lying down, and he didn't even care! I guess he knows who the queen is around this joint. Sharing a bed with someone like Gulliver is nice on cold winter nights. Good thing my snoring doesn't wake him up!

Two On, Two Off

A bit short of a year ago, I started an agility foundation class. One of the first things we learned was a 2o2o. That means I plant two feet on the equipment and two feet off when I reach the end of the equipment. It’s a safety thing she says so I don’t go leaping off the agility contact equipment and go hurting myself. Here I am all those months ago learning a 2o2o on a beginner’s practice board . But, let me find her camera and then check back in a few days. I’ll show you the end result on a “real” agility teeter. I’ve learned a lot in the past few months, I’m having fun in my new life, and my new bionic knees are hanging in there just fine!
